Wisconsin Hidden Gems

Discover. Explore. Escape.

Outdoor lovers who seek adventure, scenic views and soothing water are in for a treat! You'll want to check out these three Wisconsin gems with awe-inspiring scenery and pure natural bliss that will have you coming back year after year.

Milwaukee RiverWalk — Milwaukee, WI

Explore the city on foot as you stroll along the Milwaukee RiverWalk, extending 3.1 miles, winding you through Downtown, the historic Third Ward, and the Beerline B. Take a leisurely stroll alongside local restaurants and historic buildings, or pop into one of the many unique shops, or discover an outdoor art gallery. If you’re ready for some adventure, rent a kayak or paddleboard from the RiverWalk and take in the city from a different point of view. If cruising’s more your style, hop aboard a boat cruise and experience Milwaukee’s true beauty – the city’s skyline set against the lakefront. When you’re ready for a break, sip in style and grab a bite to eat on the outdoor patio of Lakefront Brewery, Milwaukee Ale House, Blue Bat Kitchen & Tequileria or one of the many other satisfying stops without ever leaving the RiverWalk. Experience a wide selection of house-brewed ales, unique craft beers, and rare tequilas. It’s time to experience the heart of Milwaukee on foot.

Schlitz Audubon Nature Center — Bayside, WI

Located on the stunning shores of Lake Michigan, you can become one with nature as you hike on six miles of trails through over 185 acres that take you through forests, prairies, wetlands, ravines, and bluffs. The Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, located in Bayside, Wisconsin, has something for everyone. Walk along the boardwalk to get up close and personal with the frogs and turtles. If you’re a birdwatcher, this is the place to be! Designated as an Important Bird Area, you’ll see many varieties of birds that live in the habitats throughout the nature center. Climb the observation tower for a bird’s eye view of the nature preserve and Lake Michigan. And don’t forget to explore the interactive exhibits. As if this nature center isn’t cool enough, it was once the farm for the Schlitz Brewery draft horses.

Holy Hill — Hubertus, WI

A popular and stunning site, which becomes even more beautiful in the fall, is Holy Hill Basilica in Hubertus, Wisconsin. This must-see landmark has captivating views both inside and out. Sitting high atop a glacial hill, you’ll breathe in the fresh air as you climb to the top of the bell tower, looking out over acres of natural beauty, or walking through the winding paths. Step inside the neo-Romanesque church built in 1926 and enter the Basilica for spiritual serenity, viewing the architecture, paintings and stained glass windows. If peace and beauty are what you’re looking for, a visit to Holy Hill should be on your list.
